Received a call Sunday. Bob (not his real name) was a man who every day I gave a ride to work at the Post Office. He has esophageal cancer, and had finished chemo and radiation. Friday I gave him a ride to meet some friends. The last words he spoke to his ex-wife roommate on the way out the door with me was "Remind me, Sarah, that I have to write a will." Sunday he died.
His ex-wife has no inheritance status. She's not on the mortgage. One of the surviving children is special needs, in a special treatment facility. Last month he just bought a trailer.
His aftermath is a quagmire, his ex-wife flipping out, his situation scrambled.
ALL BECAUSE HE WAITED TOO LONG TO GET HIS AFFAIRS IN ORDER. DON'T REPEAT HIS MISTAKE!
