During these past few weeks I've been home cleaning out closets, going through photo albums, donating clothes, doing odd chores that I've been putting off for months and sometimes years. I decided one day that I would call close friends and family to check in with them, making sure they have everything they need and to connect. In conversations with quite a few of them I found out a few very important things about preparing for the long haul should this virus linger:
(1) Many of them are doing the same thing as I was doing....odd jobs around the house, clearning out closets, ensuring they had plenty of TP, etc.
(2) Then we got around to talking about preparing for the future beyond the corona virus. The topic of Healthcare Proxy, Wills and/or Trusts, Power of Attorney, etc and low and behold, NO ONE that I spoke to has one. NO ONE!
3) I was astounded that only a few ever even brought up the subject and then said, "Oh, but we have plenty of time to do that!" or "I'm only 57!", or "I will get one drawn up as soon as this virus blows over!" Regardless of the virus, people have other things on their mind......let's get through this thing first. All I could think was, well what if (God forbid) you get the virus and don't make it.Without a will, the state can take everything. No one wants that to happen.
