Now a case illustration to prove the point of the 2 previous blog posts. A person in California calls asking about a trust created before 2000, and who's father was around then to get a copy of the trust, but didn't. NOW father can't be found, granddaughter has no legal right to get a copy AND the person who the trust was for has used up all that was in the trust to pay for assisted living. Could something have been done if things happened timely? Never will know.
The scariest one is very personal. A friend I gave a ride to work says "Carol, remind me I've got to get Alex to draft a will." This he says as he's walking out the door Friday. Two days later this Carol called to say, "My husband is dead. He went while being medivacked to the hospital." Any chance now of protecting his assets, setting up something Too late! DON'T LET THAT BE YOUR LEGACY.
