Just fielded a phone call that is typical of many. Son was supposed to receive 1/3, along with 2 sisters. Prior to death, house of parent transferred; power of attorney allowed sister to leave deceased parent with no estate.

Two years later, there's probably nothing that can be done. The time to engage counsel, check in to things, was right when parent died.

SO MANY PEOPLE WAIT TO DO ANYTHING. MANY OTHERS ASSUME SIBLINGS WILL BE IMPARTIAL. The sad reality that years have shown is how often the death of parents brings out in your family all sorts of negative actions and feelings; like they can now let them be known.

One friend gave his brother the check from his mother's estate. Upon receipt, his brother laid in to him with 30+ years of resentment, grudges, things he'd been holding onto. After this tirade, the brother left, never to contact his brother again.

As one client told me, "you must have a PhD in soap opera."
